Feeling apprehensive or a little intimidated about trying Pilates or aerial classes? Many people feel that way initially, but don’t let it stop you from coming to us! Teachers at our studio will make sure that you have the best experience and are safe whether you decide to try Pilates or aerial fitness.
Whether you are in a private session or a small group class, a professionally trained instructor will guide you through the exercises with meticulous attention to form and precision. As a result, you will develop strength and flexibility in a safe and careful way. If you are a beginner, your instructor will make sure you feel comfortable at your own level. You will be amazed at the progress you’ll make!
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR FIRST PILATES VISIT
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Wear comfortable clothing that can stretch with you. Non-skid socks are required for all Reformer sessions.
WHAT WILL MY PILATES INSTRUCTOR NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ME?
If you are taking a private lesson, your instructor will have a brief consultation with you prior to the lesson to review your health history and concerns. Your instructor may ask you further questions to get a better understanding of any injuries or surgeries you may have had to tailor your workout. If you are attending a group lesson, it is important for you to share this information with your instructor as well.
WHAT SHOULD I BE PREPARED FOR DURING MY PILATES SESSION?
Your instructor will guide you through various exercises. Sometimes this will involve touching you to manipulate your body’s movements and/or achieve proper alignment. Please be advised that there may be other instructors working with their clients during your time at the studio.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DO PILATES?
As with any exercise program, your body will benefit most from frequent and regular practice. We suggest participating in lessons two to three times a week.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR FIRST AERIAL CLASS
I AM NERVOUS ABOUT AERIALS. IS IT SAFE?
When you are new, we teach very basic aerial moves that only are 2-3 feet off the ground. We keep our class sizes small enough that we can give you personalized attention and you will receive both verbal instructions and hands-on assistance. We do go upside-down in every aerial class including Intro so if you do not like being upside-down, have vertigo or motion sickness our classes may not be a good fit for you.
I’M NOT IN GREAT SHAPE. WILL I BE ABLE TO DO IT?
The hammocks hold 1,000 lbs, so don’t worry about your weight, they can hold anyone. It does require mobility so we recommend you be able to lift your foot 2.5 feet above the ground and pull yourself to standing from a sitting position before coming to class. We offer modifications for our fitness and flexibility moves that will help you adjust the intensity as you build strength. The aerial moves are the easiest part of our classes for most people, it is the lunges, planks, sit-ups and pull-ups that will challenge you!
WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE TO ATTEND?
Our minimum age to take classes or attend parties is 12. Younger will be considered for private parties if the individual has significant gymnastic, dance or aerial experience and you receive pre-approval by email.
